First appeared in Acumen
Yes, I was loitering by the school gate
In slightly outmoded clothing, it's true
I did think rounders practice made the view
More charming, and had taken to lingering late.
Once, with a small flask of diluted drink
I waited to see the whole of the match.
Teachers frowned.  Age teaches not to attach
Too much importance to what people think
All the same, I left before they declared
Pricked by their filthy insinuations
I took to the telly and stayed away
I was glad of an alibi on that day
Selfish, I know, but who wouldn't be scared?
The bloke that snatched her - her uncle, you say?
